Judy Dunlop
Hello
Welcome to Judy’s website…here you’ll find lots of information about Judy and her music.
Born in Brampton, Cumbria, Judy has been singing since the age of 13, when she formed a folk band with friends at her school. Later, when she trained to be a teacher at Matlock College of Further Education she was a regular performer at the college folk club.
After being introduced by Alan James (father of Hannah James) to classical guitarist Steve Marsh she and Steve began performing together at folk clubs and festivals. Her long association with Steve has produced 3 albums and many well loved and sell-out Christmas shows in Derbyshire.
She was an early member of the Appalchian Dance Team ‘Feet First’ and together with founder member, Julie James, introduced singing into the repertoire of the team. Julie and Judy left ‘Feet First’ to form Lightening and Rainbows, a singing and dancing band, which later, with some band member changes, became Vox Box.
Whilst dancing with ‘Feet First’ Judy was introduced, by mutual friends, to Ashley Hutchings. Their son Blair is now launching himself as a musician ( www.blairdunlop.com). Judy and Ashley ‘s album, Sway with Me, a celebration of trees, hosted many luminaries of the folk world. They continue to work together and she is currently a member of his Lark Rise Band.
Judy and Jon Scaife teamed up after Jon’s wife, Joyce suggested they might form a duo. They have released one album, ‘I Want Something’ and are currently preparing the next.
She was invited by Mick Ryan to join his folk musical, The Navvy’s Wife (www.thenavvyswife.co.uk) and is also rehearsing his latest production, The Pauper’s Path due to be launched this June.
Judy always prioritized being a mum and a teacher but is now able to concentrate more on her musical career, and is looking forward to working with both Jon and Steve and in Ashley and Mick’s projects.
